Sophie's Gala
Sophie’s Run is an event put on by the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada. The run is being held in memory of Sophie Chuchmach, who lost her battle with cancer on September 15, 2006. Her daughter Nicole will be running and she is set to start in Milton on September 1, 2008. She will be running from Milton to New York City. Yes, New York City! The distance is equivalent to running 18 and a half marathons. It is expected to take Nicole 8 weeks. The Gala was held to launch the run as well as release a song called "Sophie's Run", and the Grand Chalet was the perfect setting for the evening. All money raised from the evening, which included some really great auction items, will be donated to raise awareness for colorectal cancer. Although devastated by the loss of her mother, Nicole is devoted to carrying on her fight. Her mom's story is a lesson for everyone. Education about and public awareness of the signs and symptoms of colorectal cancer will save lives. This is now her charge, her obligation, her goal. Nicole, the community of Milton is behind you.
