2008 August > Guess How High My Mohawk Is?
Nathan, a student from Bruce Trail Public School, was about to get a hair cut last fall when he announced that he wanted to grow his hair so he could donate it to children with cancer and make a wig out of it. His mother thought it was a great idea! After a little research they discovered that it had to be 10-12 inches long to donate. Nathan wasn’t quite prepared to grow his hair for the next two years to achieve that goal so they came up with another plan. Since Nathan has very curly hair, they decided he could grow his hair and get people to guess how high his mohawk was going to be. His goal was to raise $200. On June 26th, Bruce Trail Public School all watched as Michelle from Sharkie’s Cuts for Kids shaved Nathan's curly locks into a 16cm (almost 6 1/2 inches) tall mohawk. It was so tall, it wouldn't stand up and so after the measuring, it was trimmed down to a more manageable length. Once all the donations were tallied, Nathan had exceeded his goal and raised $240 on his own and donated it to the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation which supports women with cancer and violence against women. Nathan requested the monies be allocated to cancer, which will be done in honour of all those who have donated to fight the fight against Cancer. Nathan would like to thank everyone who helped him exceed his goal. Nathan's parents are very proud of him. Way to go Nathan!!
